History

The SBL is one of the specialist sections of the NBA, set up to engender the professional development of Nigerian commercial lawyers and, thereby, raise the level of business law practice in Nigeria.

The SBL was created alongside the Section on Legal Practice; and the Section on Public Interest and Development Law, following the approval of the NBA National Executive Committee (NEC) and pursuant to the resolution of the NBA Annual General Conference held in Enugu in 2003.

These sections were inaugurated on the 9th of December 2004 by the then President of the NBA, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN.

Over the years, the SBL had indeed raised the bar in the commercial law space and this has engendered the adoption of global standards and best practices within the legal profession through constructive engagements and collaborations with relevant local and international Institutions. We have been doing this through seminars, trainings, workshops, and, of course, our flagship conference, the Annual Business Law Conference.
